Transforming a Challenging Floor Plan into Two Calm, Functional Bathrooms

Some projects begin with a beautiful vision. This one began with a problem.

What began as an aging kitchen and a failing Jack-and-Jill bathroom soon revealed a much bigger opportunity. Rather than simply replacing finishes, we reimagined how the home itself could function.

The original bathroom layout was crowded with doors, competing circulation paths, and a shared arrangement that offered little privacy or flexibility. By carefully reworking the floor plan and borrowing space from an oversized primary closet, one shared bathroom became two thoughtfully designed spaces, each with its own distinct purpose.

The transformation was achieved through a series of seemingly simple decisions that dramatically changed how the home feels. A doorway became a window, bringing light into the hallway while reducing visual clutter. A window became a doorway. A traditional swinging door became a pocket door. One by one, each move simplified the architecture until the entire space felt calm, intuitive, and remarkably spacious.

The renovation extended well beyond the bathrooms. Removing the wall between the kitchen and dining room created a brighter, more connected living space, while a former window became a glass door leading to the patio. The new exterior openings required thoughtful coordination and HOA approval, allowing the architectural vision to be carried through seamlessly. A built-in window seat added storage, a comfortable place to pause, and a stronger connection between indoors and out.

The completed renovation reflects a shared vision. Designed for a busy professional who valued function over excess, the project balances beauty with practicality at every turn. Heated towel warmers, generous storage, durable materials, and timeless finishes create a home that feels effortlessly comfortable without ever feeling overdesigned.
