Making 166 Square Feet Feel Like Home

Designed for my daughter's first apartment during college, this compact studio balanced sleeping, studying, dining, and everyday living within just 166 square feet. The goal was to create a calm, welcoming retreat that supported the demands of student life while making the most of every square foot.

Deep charcoal walls introduce a sense of intimacy and sophistication, balanced by crisp white bedding, warm textures, and sculptural lighting. Abstract geode artwork anchors the palette, while natural light, layered textiles, and carefully edited furnishings keep the small space feeling bright, welcoming, and comfortably lived in.

Every piece was chosen with intention, allowing the studio to function as a bedroom, workspace, dining area, and place to relax without feeling crowded. Thoughtful planning and a restrained palette help the apartment live well beyond its modest footprint.

The result is a stylish, highly functional home that proves thoughtful design isn't measured by square footage, but by how beautifully a space supports everyday life.
